PUBLISHING ETHICS

The Editorial Board of “Visegrad Europe” adheres to internationally accepted principles of publication ethics and is reflected, in particular, in the recommendations of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE).

In order to avoid unfair practices in publication activities, to ensure the high quality of scientific publications and public recognition of the scientific results obtained by the author, each member of the Editorial Board (hereinafter referred to as “Editor”), author, reviewer, publisher, as well as institutions involved in the publishing process are required to comply with ethical standards, rules and regulations and take all reasonable steps to prevent violation.

Duties of the editor

The editor undertakes to:

  • Be responsible for making the decision on publication;
  • Evaluate the intellectual content of manuscripts regardless of the race, gender, sexual orientation, religious views, background, citizenship or political preferences of Authors;
  • Strive to meet the needs of the readers and authors of the journal;
  • Eliminate the influence of business and politics on decisions to publish materials in the journal;
  • Ensure the confidentiality of information about the accepted manuscript, with the exception of Authors, Reviewers, possible Reviewers, other scientific advisers and the Publisher;
  • Make a decision on the publication of materials based on the following criteria:
        1. correspondence of the manuscript to the subject of the journal;
        2. relevance, novelty and scientific significance of the presented article;
        3. clarity of presentation;
        4. reliability of results and completeness of conclusions.
  • Take into account the recommendations of the reviewers when making the final decision on the publication of the article. Responsibility for the decision on publication lies entirely with the Editorial Board of the journal;
  • Justify their decision to accept or reject an article for publication;
  • Do not use information from unpublished materials in their own research.

Duties of the author

When submitting materials for publication to the journal «Visegrad Europe», the authors undertake to:

  • Submit only original research. In case the author refers to studies of other authors and previously published publications, the author undertakes to indicate correct references to these materials. Borrowing without reference will be considered by the Editorial Board as plagiarism;
  • Provide only true facts and information in the manuscript;
  • Provide sufficient information for other researchers to verify and repeat the experiments;
  • Do not use information obtained privately without open written permission;
  • Avoid duplication of publications;
  • Comply with ethical standards when criticizing or commenting on third-party research;
  • Specify all authors of the material.

Duties of a reviewer

The reviewer, who participates in the peer review of materials submitted for publication in the journal «Visegrad Europe», undertakes to:

  • Give objective and impassionate decisions;
  • Ensure confidentiality policies;
  • Do not use the information gained during the review process for personal benefit;
  • Make decisions based on specific facts and provide evidence of his/her decision;
  • Draw the attention of the editor-in-chief to the significant or partial similarity of the evaluated manuscript with any other work, as well as the fact that there are no references to the provisions, conclusions or arguments previously published in other works of this or other authors;
  • Assist the author in improving the quality of the article;
  • Do not use information from unpublished materials in his/her own research.

Conflict of interest

In order to avoid conflicts of interest, the following obligations are imposed on each of the parties:

The editor is obliged to:

  • Request information from all participants of the manuscript publication process about the possibility of competing interests;
  • Refer the manuscript to another member of the editorial board for review if the originally appointed reviewer has a conflict of interest with the author of the submitted manuscript;
  • Make a decision on the publication of information specified in the author’s letter concerning a conflict of scientific and / or financial interests, if it is not confidential and may affect the assessment of the published work by the reader or the scientific community;
  • Ensure the publication of a correction if the relevant information about the conflict of interest arises after the publication of the article.

The author is obliged to:

  • Mention all known and potential sources of the conflict of interest in his/her covering letter;
  • Disclose the employment, institutional affiliations and the source of research funding;
  • Confirm the absence of the conflict of interest in the cover letter.

The reviewer is obliged to:

  • Inform the editor-in-chief about the presence of the conflict of interest and recuse himself / herself from reviewing the manuscript.
